It’s School!
A song is slightly becoming an obsession, driving me insane little by little in a very unmerciful way. Oh ,yeah. It’s “Never Miss A Beat” by Kaiser Chief. That song is GENIOUS but – above all – … “it’s school”. Yay. School. Like “The School”, some guys from Cardiff (The same city of Captain Jack). I had the chance to see this amazing indie-band in Italy, ’bout a month ago. Take a look- Take a look- Take a look at those clips and the pics, ’cause they never miss a beat.

Goldplay?
“In the end, all that I left has come unbearable “
What was your first approach with Spandau Ballet? Just supposing that you were born somewhere in the 70′s in time to get in touch with their music. “Gold”, “With Pride”, “Instinction”, Istant classics that suddently enanched the joy factor of my summers back in my teens. Speaking for myself I first heard the name “Spandau” from my cousin. Every girl went crazy for Wham or Duran Duran. My cousin got class, and decided to stick posters of those pioneers of New Romantics movement.

Really Primitives
Sometimes bands are meteors. They light up the sky for few seconds, everyone turns theit head up in the sky, the star is gone, what is left is the stray of something too good to be forgotten. That’s the case of “The Primitives”, one of my retro-listening I’m now found of. The Primitives carreed started to get serious once Morrissey (Yessir! Morrissei) pointed at them as one of their favourite bands of the moments (it was 80′s time).

Born To Move
Organetta is sure of the biggest event indie agency in Italy. In few years they’ve taken the best of Italian Indiependent Pop and they brought it ’round Europe in impressive rounds of live dates. Superpartner, the band, is no exception to the rule. A nice chanteuse, a tough band, a smooth taste on melodies, the band will propably bring you to the Moon if you’re in love with the sweetest side of the 70s, the quiet sinth side of Superbus and first Cardigans Retropop.

Another Sky
This time I had the chance to talk with Anders Kaasen, from the Bergen based pop band The April Skies. Tracks like “Picnic in Heaven” and “Three minutes singles” hit me for their genuine istant classic strenght along with a fresh indie attitude. Here’s the interview.
Mark Zonda: Mr. Anders, introduce The April Skies to our readers.
Anders: We’re a pop band from Bergen, Norway constantly trying to make uplifting, high quality guitar pop. It’s hard. That’s why we still haven’t managed to release an album.

The Melancholy Songs
Recently I had the chance to listen to “The Rise and Fall of Responsibility”, the second complete music work by the London based Matt Williams , aka The Brigadier. With melodies as “The Melancholy Days” and “This is why” it’s easy to say that “The Rise and Fall of Responsibility” is a bitter joyful journey in the brightest side of the history of music at its best. Guitars, keyboards, drums, fine melodyes and tender clever lyrics complete a totally grown work. The Brigadiers surely knows how to move in the construction of an album, and “The Rise and Fall” seems like the tenth release from an old friend with full self confindence on his skills and potentials.

Girlz
Last night I had the chance to see a live performance of a band from Oregon, possibly the closest thing next to Xiu Xiu: The Parenthetical Girls. It was their second time in Officina 49, and they thanked the audience for not having left the room like the time before. Cabaret-retro-pop in the topical mood of the cripto-frufru NY underground scene, the ambiguous Zac Pennington (mis)lead a band with the same ambitions of Velvet Underground too slobby to achieve a decent live performance, sounds, magnetism.

This Oh in My Heart
“Walk in the park” was stock in my mind since a long time. But frankly it couldn’t have been left in my memory for more than 2 years. For some reason I was mislead to believe that it belonged to some strange collection from Trattoria Records. But it all belonged to “Oh No, Oh My”, Texas. And how lucky I was to see them giggin in my town! Here’s some Microfilms

Riot, Riot
If there’s a band that particoulary managed to catch my attention and immagination, its name it’s surely Ra Ra Riot. I first noticed them thanks to a youtube video capturing a little live show somewhere in a little venue in America. The band hit me for their great performance and an fantastic taste in the construction of the melodies of their songs. I was luck enough to have a little talk with Mr. Milo Bonacci.
