Boogie, Woogie & Stomp
Gee. This review was able to shock me in the first place before starting to write it. Strange christmas magic? Pure nonsense? A time paradox? How could it be true? The fact is that when I decided to throw some lines on “Kitty, Daisy & Lewis” I was moved by my attraction for root music r&r and the attonishing good quality of this music. I was ready to do my job and deep my knowledge on that band, expecting to have an hard search on few scattered old news leaving this humble page painted with just the impression of a couple of track of this immaginary band from somwhere near New Orleans in the 50′s.
How was I to expect that Kitty, Daisy & Lewis are alive, brit and in good shape!
Fat youngters from London! You made it! “Baby old me tight” it’s so pure in his recording and execution that could easily remind to ol’good radio days, while classics like “Buggin’ Blues” could easily be covered by Sir. Paul McCartney on his next 60′s pure rock skiffle oriented would-be-project.
Guitar, piano, banjo, lapsteel guitar, harmonica, double bass, ukulele, drums, trombone, xylophone and accordio, all played by just three guys, recorded on a 8 track tapeĀ with nothing but vintage BBC and RCA microphones. In a word: CRAZY. Out there there’s still some crazy kids in love with the unique energy of that simple kind of rockin’ and rollin’ providing us with some classy straight real music. How thankful I am.
Parents mus be seriously proud of ‘em. That’s a fact. They’re actually playing guitar and double bass on their live acts. Let’s hope mam and dad will be keen on a trip in Italy soon.
