Animal Collective – Merriweather Post Pavilion
Will it be just like I’m dreaming?
I constantly need things to help me escape the grey reality. I guess that’s why I absorb music almost all my time except for when I’m sleeping. Usually when I find an album I like I listen to it over and over again; you see, I’m not very persistent to arrange playlists in Winamp. Anyway, there’s really no reason to do that right now cause I’m living and breathing ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’, the new Animal Collective album.
Maybe you’ve been catching up on the buzz surrounding this album, some guy broke into an AC member’s gmail account, “stole” a song and made it available on the net. Then the mysterious Web Sheriff arrived on his digital horse and erased every trace of new music from the band. Then the album leaked for real and now People on various discussion forums are claiming this album to be the best thing since sliced panda bear. It’s always difficult with hypes, it tends to cloud your view of the music somewhat (of course this hype can’t be compared to the Glasvegas hype we have in Sweden at the moment).
But I’m not going to care about that, I truly love this album to death. From the opener ‘In Your Flowers’ and its haunting ambient noise via the hypnotizing love ballad ‘Blueish’ to the super-catchy and monotonous afrobeatsynthartrock-chorus in ‘Brothersport’. And they never lose their pop nerve for one second, that’s usually the case with their previous albums. There are wonderful pop moments on 2005′s ‘Feels’ or the 2007 release ‘Strawberry Jam’ but there’s also some uninspired and outright boring moments on those records. That’s not the case with ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’, the whole album feels like a last bittersweet glimpse of a dying fantasy rainbow. What a wonderful way to escape the daily routine.
No more running…
