First We Take Manhattan
First We Take Manhattan hail from Glasgow and create a sound as soothing as a Pacific sunset.
Al Carlisle and Amanda (Panda) combine in a way that is choral unison. These two artists combine to create something requisite. Acoustic, waterfalls of guitars and sweeping vocal harmonies that are so intricate in places you are taken initially to a place where you think you can predict the rest of a song. Then, suddenly you are forced to a higher stratum of sonority.
I saw them for the first time live this very week, occasionally when you see and hear artists perform there are certain acts that you feel you are intruding on. There is a complete lack of narcissism but there is a solid mainline of pride through their entire performance. For two such secretive individuals their voices and music soar above everything, I have such admiration for artists like this that translate their thoughts and emotions in this way because it makes it so much more succinct.
Both Al and Amanda are artists individually and there will be links to their Myspace pages below as well. I urge you to listen to everything they produce both as individuals and as a group. I welcome them with open arms to the many people I have discovered that exude pure passion for what they do. People like this put my faith back into this industry we call music.
