Pretend We’re Illuminoids
… and a certain point when time met space in a squashed orange juiced on a scrambled egg, the so easy and yet queasy indie music – so tired of covers and tribute, having played “There’s a light that never goes out” and “Disco 2000″ for the 2000th time – discovered the so called “Mesh up” era, where classics and hits collided together providing the songs new thrills and highlights. Illuminoids are one of the most representative heros of that scene. We had a little chat with them.
Mark Zonda: Illuminoids, LA. How did it come that you felt the urge of DJsetting, mixing the coolest songs in town and having parties?
Jells Mayhem: We first started to team up, after listening to some mash-ups, and just thought wow these are so insane, we can do this. However, for the most part, the source material in those mash-ups was kinda lame. So it was kinda like lets do this but lets do it with stuff that isn’t really being used. You know then we progressed into doing more straight up remixes.
Mark Zonda: Is there anyone outside there that has been some sort of Jedi Master to you?
Jells Mayhem: Well, I can probably speak for the both of us when I say that there has been so many people over the years that have taught us so much, it would be hard to say just one.
Mark Zonda: Electro Vs Guitars: good or evil?
Jells Mayhem: As long as it’s loud, distorted and it’s banging either one works with for us. Evil is Good, especially in with music….
Mark Zonda: Most evil song of ever?
Jells Mayhem: hmmmm…. personally I think that Eminem song where he kills his wife is probably one of the most evil songs ever written.
Mark Zonda: How many soul do you put on your wax?
Jells Mayhem: Can’t, sold our soul for Rock and Roll
Mark Zonda: Ever tought of starting a rock’n roll band?
Jells Mayhem: Actually I’m currently getting started on a project together with some other people I know, that will be sort of a hard rock/electro style band. Howie Pyro is a very skilled bass player and has been in a lot of bands in the past such asDanzig, D-Generation, The Blessed and has done projects with many other people in the past too. Rock and Roll is very much in our blood. Plus, you can also expect to hear a Illuminoids record of original material very soon that will be very much rock oriented.
Mark Zonda: Worst thing happened during a party?
Jells Mayhem: No major catastrophe’s so far… besides the random equipment malfunction!
