Most Loved Indie Girls Top 10
“Why should I have spring fever, when it isnt even spring?”
Ok. I’m against things like that. I mean, looking for pin-ups to entratain the visitors of a site of mine: it’s just not my syle. But – hey – spring is coming, and I personally can’t stand the apex of winter season, when cold reaches its top and I just can’t get rid of my metereopathinc insofference for the grey and gloomy February skies. What’s all this pathetic introduction all about?
One of the few fan of SleepWalking Mag keeps on asking me everyday for it. Any Given Day. What’s the deal all about? Making a TOP 10 for the “Most Loved Indie Girls” by friends and readers opinion. Well. I asked around. That’s what you get.
Ex genius-guitar-solo-heroine from the European Weezer controparte band called “Ash”,deep blue eyes and strong personality, Charlotte seems to have spellbound just more than boy’s taste and musical acclaims. Soft, intriguing and evocative, her dreamy perfect pop ballads are moreover a brave remedy to the average urge of being up-to-date with the latest indie sounds. Bella e brava.
2) ROSITA GARZIA
Believe it or not, I’m the first to be surprised by the popolarity of the chanteuse from the Italian retro-pop band Superpartner. Our European Kylie Minogue and her band got quite popular this year after a marvellous debut with the album Lovehotel and an overextended tour planned by Organetta Booking. Best Rosita extra-features? She’s absoluty brilliant and clever (not kiddin!) and she’s really singing her heart out during the show with a unique pidgin English. Even when she’s out of tune!
3) ALICE GLASS
Singer from “Crystal Castles” seems to make many male listeners wonder more about fight rather than love. That’s right. Fight. Naked and on the mud.
Anyone who ever owned a Commodore 128 back up and pay attention. Alice is still one of the fave by many geeks and teens. For those who stills believe in magic but are ready to wait for girl out of a cake rather than another rabbit out of a stupid hat.
4) FRESCHARD
The german-francoise-worldcitizen-suffragette wandering little companion from Stanley Brinks AKA Dr. Herman Düne, the anti folk lo-fi eroine seems to have broken trhough many many dreams. That was another unespected surprise when I asked names for this editorial. “Freschard grew up in a farm in French Burgundy. She started organizing shows in the barn when she was about 12 years old. Aged 18 she moved to the big city, Paris, where she baked pies and cakes in a cafe.”
5) REGINA SPEKTOR
Sexy lips, big shiny eyes, what a smile! She’s the favourite from one of the Italian band The Clever Square (you guess who). And not only! Another perfect example of beauty meeting pure genious and talent.
Russia has still got something to say, and it does sharing with the rest of the World one of the most expressive and sensual voices of the pop-indie musical scene.
6) MARGOT
Another unexpected one, still it seems that I really underrated the number of the many fan of the singer of the Italian band “Tiger, Tiger!”.
Cutest moment of the shows: when she suddently get shy introducing songs with “Je t’aime” or “Fuck” included in the lyrics.
“In our past lives we were tigers . During this life we had good experiences”
7) NINA PERSSON
I’ve nothing to add, your honour. Thanks. Simply the most beautiful singer in the World. Strange she reached only the 7th place. It’s a Nr.2 for Mr. Zonda (still I guess there’s no podio for me in her personal chart. Sigh!).
Sometimes she sings with a band called “A Camp”, but she got popular thanks her mates from Sweden “Cardigans”. The day I’ve seen “Carnival” video on MTV was the moment I realised waht being in luv was. Did I get melodramatic again?
8) MATILDE BERRGREN
It was hard to pull out a name from Parker Lewis, the sweden singer in glasses. Still his preference went for Matilde B, from the band “Mixtapes and Cellmates“.
“It’s pop but not brainless, quiet but not pointless, electronic but not calculated, emotional but never uncomfortable, and even a little mysterious but certainly not mystifying.” (From “New Noise”)
9) KAKI KING
From her sweet modest mouth.
“We really concentrated on the melodies. Everything I write tends to be dense and chordal, but this time the idea was to layer the challenging guitar work under very simple, beautiful melodies. I really wanted them to be memorable.”
Just a different class. Kaki King is “The Choice of the Geek Generation”.
10) PJ HARVEY
Number… ten? PJ TEN? An idol for also almost any of the few girls brave enough to listen to some indie music, let’s just say that “PJ RULES OK”.
Seeing her ranking this position of the chart brings me hope to this World. I mean. If PJ is 10th wonder how cute will be chanteuse number 100th! And what a bout your musical love interests? Unveil your love wounds on this editorial comments box :)
Kaki King -”Yellowcake”
Crystal Castle – “Courtship Date”
