Kaki
Kaki King played @ Kalkinka last Friday. Was it a great show? Let’s say it was REALLY crowded. So crowded I could hardly see the guitar virtuosa from the first lines. (her height was not helping anyway). Kaki King is really a master in playing chords in her own unique way. A shame that all this tecnique showed during the long show sounded a little void and sensless.
Kaki showed her best in the only two complete songs shared with the audience. Can’t say why she’s more oriented on that ambient jazzed new psycadelic wave. I mean: her voice is great, she should sing more auften. Maybe Kalinka wasn’t the right place for that kind of show. People were a bit noisy (just enough to get Kaki upset) and it was really hard to get in the right mood standing stuck in a crowded place trying not to move a mucle to get a bit of the performance.
Kaki shared the stage with a drummer (”and this is… WHERE’S MY FUCKING DRUMMER!??!?”) and a guy playing a strange magic wooden tribal stick plugged to any possible effect. Let’s summi it up: seeing Kaki King playing live in 2009 was possibly like seeing a colder version of Hendrix playing in a club in 1967, as counterside the show had marvellous sounds, but was really boring.
Quote of the night:“This is my last gig in Italy. Tomorrow I will go to the AC/DC live show, and I will be buisy writing down on my hands some strange chords from that fucking blues, hard rock, whatever those guys are playing…”
