Waiting for the shining hour
“Still thinking about you and how the things went wrong…”
“I would say” (just to quote the Tiny Tide song I’m working on right now) that it’s hard to count the number of indie bands heavely influenced by R.E.M.. Them conscious or not. Don’t know, but there’s something in The Shining Hour‘s guitar arpeggios and chords that reminds me of Cornelius and Astrolab too.
Yet the sound is clearly the plain lo-fi standard that defines indie music nowadays. Songs like “Before You Know It” do their work, helps to get smooth on the heavy day driving better toward the fridays of our lives.
“From England With Love” was the attempt from the all man band Mark Cohen to support England football team during the World Cup. Guess just it wasn’t the lucky song, but “Thinking about her” it’s a damn good song, and it would probably drove me insane if listened at the wrong time of a love affair.
“Long Lost”, their last collection of songs, it’s marked 2006. Wonder if the guys from Worthing are still woking on, ’cause what we’ve tasted was good, and I wouldn’t mind asking for more! Don’t give up Mr. Cohen! Shining Hour is on your hands! In a strong coffee we trust!
