The Morrisons
Music by The Morrisons it’s quite Americana rewritten in a pure Albion syle. Genuine, intense, with a little bit of folk blending the whole stuff. The band his going to return with the album “Listen to The Morrisons” by “Eggnog Records“ after two works under “Golden Pathway“ and the nice mini-cd “Looking for Jeanie” (Cloudberry Records #30. Main regret from my interview with Phil? They were member of the ORIGINAL C86 movement… and I didn’t knew it!
Mark Zonda: How the Morrisons got born? It’s the name a hint to Moz?
Phil: The band was formed in 1986 by Ian Churchward and Phil Andrews. The name actually came from a drunken conversation between Ian and me we were almost called The Jim Morrisons! So sadly no reference to the rather cool Morrisey.
Mark Zonda: “The Jim Morrisons”! Ubercool! Favourite Doors songs?
Phil: Probably some of the obvious ones really. “Light My Fire”, “People Are Strange” and “The End” come immediately to mind.
Mark Zonda: What is like living in Torquay Devon? Does it help in writing songs?
Phil: Great place to live but not that inspiring for music. With the exception of Muse no real succesful groups have ever come from Devon. It’s certainly been a challenge to write and play in Torquay and I guess that has influenced and found its way into our songs.
Mark Zonda: Favourite Beatles songs?
Phil: Taxman, and pretty much anything off Revolver really.
Mark Zonda: Can you introduce us to your last album and Eggnog records?
Phil: Our last proper album was “Electricar” on “The Golden Pathway” label which was written and recorded back in 2006. We have a finished album called “Listen To The Morrisons” which was recorded in 2007-2008 and which hopefully will be released on “Eggnog Records” later this year.
Mark Zonda: What’s the genesis of “Waiting for a Train”? Do you use to travelfrequently or you’re still waiting?
Phil: You could say travel is a bit of theme for us what with “Travellin’ Boy” and “Vagabond Blues” back in the 80’s. It just seems a natural thing to write about. “Waiting For A Train is” certainly one of my favourites since we got back together again.
Mark Zonda: Thanks a lot for your precious time
Phil: Thanks a lot it was fun.
