News and Decadence

Next month the Swedish artist Parker Lewis will please his Italian fan with a new mini-tour. The artist will share his performances with anothe band from Stockholm. They are called “New Decade”. The obsucure metallic sound of Emil, Henning, Matilda and Ludvig will gave a good balance to Parker’s performances. For all the shy people ating to sweat their way to a crowdy crowd through an Editor concert, still they need theyt “Placebo”, here’s your chance to enjoy their brand new little epigons from North Europe. Here it’s a little interview.

Mark Zonda: “New Decade”, is the name hinting to decadence or renewal? How did you guys came up to form a band?

Ludvig: The thing is, when we started the band we needed a name really fast to be able to line up in a competition in our hometown. I had seen an interview with Radiohead’s Phil Selway and noticed the word “Decade”. I liked the word and then The Verve’s “A New Decade” showed up on their album I bought a few days later. And on top of it all it was a new decade, or actually a new millennium, when we started up.
So we took the name and didn’t really care enough to change it. And now it’s too late, we are New Decade
and I don’t think we could ever be anything else! About forming the band then. Me and my childhood neighbour talked about starting a band the summer of 2001.He had just been getting to know Emil, who he had started in the same class as, a year earlier. So without me even have met Emil, we had our first rehersal. A few months later Henning replaced the first guitarist and a couple of years after that, my neighbour quit and there kind of was a rotation in the band. Emil started to sing and then Matilda joined.

Mark Zonda: Ok! “New Decade” is real cool! Did you won the competition? So Emil will actually sing with you on your Italian tour?

Ludvig: Thanks. No, I think we made it to second place that time. But we won the year after. Don’t mix up with Parker Lewis’ Emil. There are two Emils’ on the road. Parker Lewis will not sing with us, or at least I don’t think so, Ah! Ah!

Mark Zonda: Touring in Italy: scared or excited?

Ludvig: We’re very excited! Or should we be scared? Ah Ah! One gig is acoustic and we’ve never even been close to playingacoustic before, so it’s really exciting! We will have our first acoustic rehersal next week. Hope it will work out!

Mark Zonda: What’s your impression on nowaday’s Sweden Indie Scene?

Ludvig: There are a couple of bands that are really good. A lot is crap. But there sure are many! So sometimes it’s quite hard to get attention.

Mark Zonda: Give us some names of Sweden or Norwegian bands who impressed you…

Ludvig: Oh, I have no clue of any norwegian bands. Right now I can’t come up with any Swedish bands either, except our lovely label mates “Everyday Sensations”. They’re always fantastic.

Mark Zonda: What do you think about the last MySpace move? Aren’t 10 tracks on the profile too confusing?

Ludvig: Could MySpace ever be confusing? No seriously, I don’t really care, but for us it’s been good, now we’ve been able to upload a few older songs too.

Mark Zonda: Club or stadium? Tell us a little about “Landet”…

Ludvig: “Landet” means like “The country-side”, because it’s a bit outside of town I guess, and is one of our favourite places in Stockholm. Nice food, nice staff and it’s quite small, so it only takes like 50 people then it feels like it’s full! And at the same time the sound is great, so it’s always fun playing there.

Mark Zonda: Did any foreign artist played in Landet?

Ludvig: Yeah, I saw The Handsome Furs from Canada there. I have not seen any one else I think but I know
other foreign bands have played there too. Thanks you!
