Hate + Pop = <3

Maybe this is what Morrissey meant by “Viva Hate”. There’s no doubt that love and loss can inspire artists to make something beautiful out of nothing, but it’s rare that hate would inspire us to do anything more than self-destruct. Magnus Sätterström, of Labradors’ newly signed band, “Little Big Adventure” (a.k.a. LBA) and named after the 2004 PC video game, proves this theory to be far from the truth.  A one-man-band out of Sweden, singing songs about hate. I must admit that after getting hooked on LBA,  I feel I’ve found a diamond in the rough.  With lyrics like “it’s all a let down, why wont you die” and “if i could get my guitar, you might as well go to hell” you may expect something harsh sounding, but the music is so perfectly synced with the physical feeling you get inside when you are hurting.. and it’s not always a horrible feeling.

His sound has an amateurish quality in it that i find quite endearing. Magnus admits “I’m not exactly a skilled keyboard player so I recorded everything note by note and then cut it all together in my music program. To cover up all my technical flaws I put a noise filter on everything so that no one could hear the glitches between the notes, and no one could hear the noise from the microphone, as everything was noisy.”  Not only is he humble, but in my opinion, simply brilliant.  Electro-pop with feelings expressed in it’s purest form.

The Hateful Eye EP is set to be released in the USA on June 16th, yet already released in Sweden on May 13th. You can order your copy straight from Labradors’ website using paypal. You can also catch up on your LBA by going to their web page where you will find a handful of free mp3’s.  Some are slow and sad, and others, like my personal favorite “where is my mind” is super poppy and dancy.. and fully equipped with snaps & claps!  LBA is on heavy rotation over here and you heard it from me,  highly recommended!   So kiddies, Viva Hate!!
