Oh,No! Ho,Ney!
“These days I seem to think about / How all the changes came about my ways”
These days. What the fuck is happening to these days? All these stars falling from the scene, and this is not even the worst part of the tale. What hit people the most ’bout the death of MJ? Possibly the fact that it was totally unespected, like a death of Micky Mouse or Winnie The Pooh himself. I’ve just learned today that another dream falled apart from my personal skyline. That’s the death of MyHoney Record. What is all about? MyHoney Record was a small music Italian label born some years ago surfing all the marvellous mesmerizing indie-hype that spreaded all over Europe like a kind wave. Basically the label began as wingy aid for the band “Le Man Avec Les Lunettes“, promoting them producing their songs on the most unconventional music device formats.
“MyHoney” was born from the common effort by Paolo Spelorzi and Alessandro Paderno, singer on “Le Man…”, to support and promote small bands. Paolo also owned a Honey Farm. That’s the logo and the name of the label explained. They also had and guested a radio-show called “Geek Radio“, and while dreaming of being produced by them will keep on being a fantasy – expecially now – at least I co-hosted some episodes of the show. How important MyHoney was for Italian Indie Scenesters? It was our little Trattoria Records, and if this blog exist it’s also because I wished to support their music after the radio was off.
My Honey did naturally evolve on a booking agency, then officialy named “Headphone Man”, and we really gotta thank them to have given us some of the best indie shows on North Italy. Guess I have to thank Paolo and Alessandro if I knew that unique little genius called “Soda Fountain Rag”, allowing me to become friends of “The April Skies“ blokes. We’re still constantly in touch nowadays! Then again me and Porlock became selve-confident on starting a band after having seen a show from “Mutt Ramones”, and it was love at first heard when I listened to the first single from “Mixtapes & Cellmates“.
Some of the best bands MyHoney ever produced? Beside the commercial explosion on summer 2007 of “MyAwesome Mixtape“, it was possibly “Tiger, Tiger!” and “Rough Bunnies“ shining by the brightest light.
Why MyHoney gave up? They mailed each fan explaining that they always worked driven by pure passion and love for their work, and now this feeling left the way a little bit. It’s also true that some years passed, there’s no sign of “Bunnies” around, “Mixtapes” were lost and “Tigers” run free into the jungle eachone followin his own instinct, leaving de facto “Le Man Avec Les Lunettes” the only relevant band from the rooster.
No more honey, just milk to cry about. What is spilt? Putting it down simple: an era. A second innocence. MyHoney showed us – or at least it tried – that music and self-promotion has to have some power over majors getting ourselves free from everything. Free to play with friends, free to listen to new ideas without having to be millionaires, free to gather around friends and have a real relationship with musicians. Beside those utopistic feelings we’ve got the memories of dozens and dozens of gigs on places that thansk to them became parte of the scene (“Lego Cafè”,”La Casa 139″,”Officina 49″,”Moyra”,”Mattatoio”,”Zuni”), real mates, and some of the best songs and CD I’ll have the pleausure to pick back from the shelf and play on the stereo. And once again they will sound like honey playing sweet memories away.
Rough Bunnies – “Om ett litet liv”
Le Man Avec Les Lunettes – “Give her some flowers”
Soda Fountain Rag – “Angry Girl”
