The Margarets
Not just another Cloudberry band. I got really impressed by the shiny happy pop from “The Margaret”, Sweden. Like an indie version of Cure in popper “The Margaret” has the power to make the gloomest afternoon bloom out in marvellous coloured vibrations. There’s still to work on the voice, but hey! What’s the poing in being twee otherwise? We had a little talk with this bright little band.
Mark Zonda: Ladied and Genglemen… The Margarets! How did you decided to form a band?
August: Me and John were in the same class in high school. And when we were 17 we discovered the stone roses and found out that’s our kind of music. Martin I knew from before and we discussed who was gonna play what. We tried a stone roses song but i had already a few songs written by myself. John wrote some lyrics and a month later we had our first recording session and a gig aswell.
Mark Zonda: What’s the point in sundays?
August: Snuggeling in bed with my girlfriend.
Mark Zonda: Sugar pop on bitter sauce, which kind of feeling do you try to evoke when you write music? Do you get influenced by your musical heroes?
August: To write some complex lyrics over danceable music. Yeah, of course we’re influenced but not neccesary our heroes. I guess we’re some kind of music fascists. Everything needs to be perfect. The Margarets comes from the good music but we’re not trying to be anybody else, this is us.
Mark Zonda: Does people should put more hukuleles on their songs?
August: It’s a nice sounding little instrument. If it fits, why not? We haven’t used it in The Margarets yet, but if we write a song that needs it, we wouldn’t mind using it.
Mark Zonda: Do you often be confused with The Margarets from Norway? Who came first?
August: Oh Yeah, we do quite often. They came first we we didn’t know their existence.
