What’s the new Emily Jane?
“Walk out into the room / there are ghosts dancing with you”
You gotta be tough for playing solo. I mean, it happened to myself quite some times, and it’s really tough being there, feets on the stage, eyes on the crowd, trying to concentrate on lyrics, singing, playing, keeping the time… when all audience attention is focused on – guess what – YOU!
Emily Jane White never fails the task. Maybe her secret is on a “Frozen Heart”, confidence on her own songs, pheraps she’s only Peggy Olson clone. Fact is that recently I tumbled upon her live sessions on “France Inter FM 05-07-FM”… and – blame it the approaching Fall – I got really hooked, like a leaf slowly being attracted by that mysterious universal force also known as gravity. Emily is an attraction. She attracts. That’s a fact. Gravity is her force and she could easily use it to get a crowdy place silent as a graveyard. Possibly Emily doesn’t create any sound… she steals it from the surroundings. Not as if Emily Jane is a bad piano player (a whole better than Frida Hyvönen) still she surely would get noticed for her clear guitar fingerpicking rather than her piano skills (that still provide more strength to her singing)
They say that Emily Jane White music is meant for isolation. Still I wouldn’t mind to share it with the most precious lover. It would be lovely if Santa Cruz should get noticed not only for her shiny surf boards but also for the dark folk of its Victorian Americans.
