New Songs From Uncle Bob
Simple, poor and direct. These day’s I’m stuck like an idiot on Boston Spaceships‘ “Winston’s Atomic Bird”. You can’t avoid yourself being mesmerized by this totally naive collage, clearly a Yellow Submarine rip off in pure “South Park” style, leaving yourself wondering what’s the most displacing element within that addicting stuff, whether you’re surprise not seeing teenagers reprising 70’s rock tunes or if it’s odd having these ol’ gents trying to be indie at their best. “Look at that cavemen go…”. After so many Facebook thumbs up I think that the most amazing thing remains the epiphany of having Robert Pollard behind “Brown Submarine”, “The Planets Are Blasted” and now the awaited “Zero to 99″, coming out in October.
Three albums with “Boston Spaceceships” in two years after having left “Guided by voices“ behind. And it’s no surprise at all, since Bob is one of the most talented writers of our times having also recorded more than 1000 songs.
Between “The Who” professionalism and “Flaming Lips” insanity “Boston Spaceceships” always distingued themself for quick good quality music at the service of fun for the heart and delight for our ears. Let’s hope that the self indulgent dark shades of genuine tracks like “Still In Rome” and nothing of the R.E.Minescent influences will be lost on this much awaited big production. Let the ship fly high over our heads.
