A Cinematic Weekend
Been to Glasgow, forgot to say hi to Cinematics. That band (not to be confused with the 80’s dark wave band) is not the most original happening in the music scene still they know how to kick a good friday night a star. Wanna-proof? They’ve benn playing the night before the gig in Covo Club in Bologna in Rome, and people from the Capital haven’t left us a single cd nor even a small sized tee! The sound of the band is already dated on World 2.0. We tried hard with regret to fit on that Franzferdiniandian music more than three years ago and now all we wanna do is trying to avoid that stuff finding other ways to get bored. Still the recipe do work, and if the magic fight hard to sparkle in the album it still has something to say in band’s live dimension.
That’s thanks to the admirable energy of a restless band of great professiona musicians with nothing to proof that won’t miss a beat for a second. Scott Rinning poweful voice leads the band through the strong paths of Editors and Placebo, sometimes reminding to first U2 works, maybe because they both were deeply influenced by the sound of Echo and the Bunnyman. And guess what! We was very pleased to know that… like Mark Zonda from Tiny Tide also Scott drinks Coke! That’s the plus of “The Good Rock’n'Roller Act Of The Week” along with Eleanor Friedberger refusing a joint from a fan during the show. The show was open by JoyCut, an Italian band trying not so hard to balance their sound between DiscoDrive, Joy Division, Grunge and Arcade Fire, letting themself go on long instrumental parts and a predictable still effective psychedelic sound.
