Control of the Circulatory System

The Circulatory  System, members of the massive Elephant 6 Collective, and comprised primarily of members of the now defunct Olivia Tremor Control, are a modern psychedelic/experimental/pop group out of Athens, Georgia.

Listening to Circulatory System’s self titled, debut album, “Circulatory System”, for the first time can only be equated to jumping out of a plane. There is an initial rush of terror and confusion as you plummet out of your comfort zone, but as the fear of these new sensations subside you start to pick up on the subtleties of falling. You enjoy the whisteling of the cool air rushing by your face and you feel the deep bass of your heart beat pulsating throughout your whole body, You can almost hear the organ tinkling of blood rushing through your fingers and your mind slows from its normal disjointed guitar riff to a soaring harmony. For the first time in your life, it dawns on you that nothing could be easier then letting go and allowing gravity to take over.

You drift through the clouds becoming soaked in dark sounds as you realize that the clouds you are inside of are nothing more then floating water, you immediately dry as you exit back into the sun’s warm friendly glow. And  for some reason the bluebird sky sounds just like the chimes of tiny cymbals. You become transfixed by things you never looked twice at while you were on the ground. The dew on your eye lids, obscuring reality and refracting it in to something much more wonderful. The beauty of the rapidly approaching earth. And then, before you know it, it’s over and you’ve landed. You’re laying on your back looking up from where you came.

You cant help but think that maybe you belong up there instead of down here. Your senses are returning to normal, you can no longer see sound nor can you hear color. You try to content yourself with memories of your experience, but as rapidly as they came they are leaving you. You find yourself with only one option. Start the album over.
