POLVO!

Just in case you didn’t know, Italian Indie Scene was shocked by a strong American wave these months. It wasn’t Katrina, there was no Claudette, still it was easily tracked down, as every single dude recognised as… WILCO! Shouting “WILCO!” like an “HELL YES!” or “UEPPA!” enthusiastic shout of joy-de-vivre, was the viral of the year thanks to a YouTube mix with the typical indie bloke stereotypes (along with “The Joy Of Being Pure At Heart”). Easy to say, in any discussion WILCO was the magical pipe of peace to put aside any diverging opinion. This week Wilco came to Italy for a couple of live show. I’ll let you imagine the hype on any available  social on the web. Stuck in the mist of Padana Plains, it happened that my Wilco! was… POLVO!

It was our little private snob hype… but it gathered quite a crowd from all North Italy. Just when I was kidding on how many people hyped by the Polvomania during the week had the chance to know’em, not being MTV nor David Letterman material. Still they were there the night of the show, knowing each obscure verse of each fucking song by the word after having waited 10 years to see’em, easily recognising any track since the first indiependent releases, making me feel quite guilty for being just an average estimator.  And the band was great! Nice and cool at the same time (kidding on the exuberant amount of artificial fog on the stage) it was impressive as the impossible kaleidoscopic sounds of Ash Bowie and Dave Brylawski guitars had the same caustic power of the recordings with no trick at all but their talent and instinct. And what about Brian Quast? With an impressive 3 minutes solo it’s definitely the drummer of the year! It was the first time I heard people from the crowd shouting “MY SHARONA… LOUIE LOUIE… ANYTHING!!!!”. And they did came for a second bis, after disappearing once again in the mist. This time it was real. One of the best shows of the year.
