Brightblack Morning Lights

It was a strange night indeed. You don’t get to see so many gigs on Monday, expecially in a small town like Cesena. Officna 49 decided to make us this gift, opening the doors for an exclusive night with and Brightblack Morning LightRio en Medio. It was a special moment, with all the music lover from the area fighting hard with the common Monday sloppiness to be there, facing a glacial weather rushing at the bar for a hot punch. A lot of familiar faces, local DJs and indie bands heroes, we were all ready for the show to begin.

Danielle Stech-Homsy was dressed on a strong polar super furry suite, leaving space for her blue eyes and some blonde locks to see. Icy beautiful, the chanteuse from Rio en Medio project sang (or should we say… whispered?) with a subtle barely tuned breath on her voice soon leaving her folk accordion to embrace a big ukulele,  engagin the audience with six minutes long songs made by a unique chord after having employed two to tune the strings in order to set it and one to complain about the volume giving directions toward the consolle.

Especially on his first gigs, Officina 49 got notorious for having brought in Italy many experimental and artistic show, so I kept myself quite before expressing my opinion on that… show? That’s why I felt very relieved when some friends of mine (the Heads!) came to me asking me if weren’t the only one having some doubts on her performance.

Nothing much to say ’bout Brightblack Morning Light. After having spent two hours and a half setting their drums set in order to get the right vibrations on the show and put Danielle clicking random keys on the synths with three fingers of the left hand (give us Linda Eastman back) Nathan Shineywater was so high that he didn’t even realize what to do and where it was when he discovered his microphone was out. Out of time and exposed to panoramic views projected on the wall, all the rest was the perfect sound of hyped psychedelia. Sometime feels gooth not to be an alternative artist.
