Lost in Liechtenstein
If you like melodies, indie music, c86 revival related stuff and Anorak whatever, it will be quite impossible for you to fall in love with Liechtenstein, the all gals band from Göteborg. Their songs were released by the glorious Fraction Discs and Slumberlands Records. I had the pleausure to talk with Renée (without having her to walk away), vocals and guitar of the team.
Mark Zonda: How did you decided to start a band, and why Liechtstein and not Gotenborg?
Renée: I started recording songs in my bedroom, but soon realized that I wanted a “real” band and real drums. I started asking around and eventually found a few friends willing to start a band with me. We liked the sound of the name Liechtenstein, plus we wanted to make kind of a statement that people should pay taxes in their countries instead of hiding away their money in a foreign tax paradise.
Mark Zonda: What’s so magical in the 60’s, and why new bands keep on looking at those days?
Renée: Well, I have actually not listen that much to music from the 60s, but the bands that inspire me have, so those influences have kind of been filtered through the generation making music in the 80s!
Mark Zonda: What about your experience with Slumberland Records? Where you contacted by them directly or you were looking for some indie labels to promote your music?
Renée: SLR and Mike have been great. We were contacted by him as he wanted to release our album in the States. I knew Mike from my work with my mailorder / label Fraction Discs, as we stock some of his releases.
Mark Zonda: “Roses in the park” seems like Jesus & Mary Chain meeting Anorak. What kind of music does the band listen to when the girls kick off their shoes?
Renée: We listen to different styles of music in the band, but I like to listen to indiepop mostly. Right now I’m listening a lot to Burning Heart’s album Aboa Sleeping.
Mark Zonda: Do you love split singles? How you became friend with “The Faintest Ideas”?
Renée: I like split singles very much, and I think that the vinyl single is a great format. We’ve been friends with The Faintest Ideas for a long time, so that’s why we were asked to reherse at their rehersal space here in Gothenburg.
