Bordello in NYC
Opening with Marianni, the outrageously talented and even more beautiful Brazilian influenced pop musician and closing with a surprise visit from Gibby Haynes of the notoriously raucous Butthole Surfers, preforming Goofy’s Concern with Eugene Hütz, Gogol Bordello’s December 27th show at the NYC venue Webster Hall was a fist pumping affair baptized in red wine and sweat.
And for their part, Gogol didn’t fail to deliver. They performed with the wild energy that has come to be expected of them
and that could only be rivaled by that of the crowd who danced and sang along to every song throughout the entire show.
Opening with Ultimate, the set list included such favorites as: Start Wearing Purple, Think Locally Fuck Globally, Baro Foro, Through The Roof ‘N’ Underground and more. The entire place erupted when they slammed out fantastic renditions of 60 Revolutions and Wonderlust King. We were left in awe as a Ukrainian flag draped Eugene finished off the show with Alcohol. This was a fantastic event at a venue that seemed almost tailored to just this type of show,
Not so big that it felt impersonal and big enough that you could fight your way out of the mob if you needed a little air.
Over all this was an outstanding experience that deepened both my love and respect for Gogol Bordello ten fold.
