You All Every Turtles
Why are we living on this sad land wasting our time for nothing? But because of indie music of course, and bringing back to light good bands that deserve to be heard. That’s because nowadays me don’t make it for money, we don’t make it for being immortal, but just to get noticed, share the fun and possibly give ourselves the chance to enlight our days with some positive vibes. That’s why it’s a pleasure for me inviting you to listen to the fine werk of “Research Turtles”, with the eponymous début album.
These guys deserve to be double pointed because of their love for the Brit Invasion and for having had the braveness to form such a band in Lake Charles, Louisiana, that is… in the middle of nothing somewhere in the U.S.A.
The powerful beginning of “Let’s get carried away” it’s a pure declaration of intents. Rocky sounds are practically perfect, reminding of whatever we loved the most of first Jets, turning with a touch of softness in the bridge to über-britt melodies sometimes reminding of Teenage Fanclub, with an astonishing work on guitars, mixing and vocals, with a great balance between rock and pop. “Kiss Her Goodbye” is introduced by a catchy retro-keyboard, reminding of Wings, for yet another istant classic ballad. “Cemet Floor” go straight head into power rock, with a guitar riff “Here come the sun” on acid flavoured and Dandy Warholesque guitars. Being said that I prefer tracks like the more indie and catchy “Tomorrow”, being more kin on Sugar Ray rather than the groungy mono-chord sound of 925 and Feeling, have to see that “Resarch Tourtles” will not be remembered in rock history but it’s sure an impressive debut, especially concerning sounds.
The album closes with the power-blues of “Break my fall”, with bass showing us what it’s capable of like never before in the other 10 tracks. Song lead us to a homey ghost tracks, revealing the real soul of the band like any good spirit should. So here they are: The Resarch Turtles. But what are they looking for? Possibly another singer, since he got lost and they’ve got more adventures to go.
