I’m so Happy
I already had the pleasure to interview Charley Rivel from The Mare on this post, and I was very delighted by his collaboration to the U.N.DISCO project having Charley moonlighting under the disco name of The Vigint Mille Lieues Sous Les Mers. Charley and The Mare are back with their first work for “Leopard Up A Tree Records”, that were so kind not only to send me a copy of their EP with some brilliant Swedish coloured stamps but to quote my enthusiastic comment on The Mare single on their site.ì
I was really surprised indeed by “I’m So Happy”. It’s a simple song aiming straight to the heart not failing to hit its target, in a perfect happy-sad sort of alchemy. It’s really hard to stumble upon songs able to portray the mood of a season, and “I’m so happy” is possibly one of the three songs that have forged my 2010 along with Best Coast and The Lovely Eggs.
The Mare EP is also notable for the twin track “Road Trip”#1 and #2, exploiting the band cinematic attitude making’em the perfect soundtrack for your next car mixtape. “Moby Dick” carries on “Road Trip” instrumental cheap-orchestral direction following the way of an impossible dream to chase, being able to embody the perfect Belle & Sebastian standards.
“I’m So Happy” it’s good quality indie pop for a world gone mad. If you wanna taste what real life is for a boy outside the big city, The Mare last EP it’s the right choice to close the door to the World, pot some tea, turning on the stereo and caring for nothing but your own good while the afternoon slowly fades away. At least for one day.
