Kitty Kitten Kristmas
Christmas has always been the perfect time to gather with family and friends and share a little bit of fun and joy during long unbearable Winters. This material tradition carried with it a not to be underestimated power to bring out the brightest and warmest side of everyday dull moments always able to find a little bit of magic and cheers round every chilly corner. At least not for indie scenesters. As for them the only big deal with Christmas is to remind each of ‘em how miserable and lonely they are. Especially that day, just like in any other song of The Smiths. And aren’t all their tunes just Christmas song for every day of the year? “Kitty Kitten Kristmas” seems no exception to the rule. KKK is a collection of new Christmas songs by KinGem Records gathering some artists of the label with some interesting fresher, such as the mysterious duo “Cherry Berry” and “A Nice Person”. The EP starts with Tiny Tide “Left alone for Christmas”, a rocky tune with keyboards, glockenspiel and jingle guitars very kin to Sarah Records and Labrador telling the unfortunate story of Tiny Tide‘s drummer, being seduced and abandoned the very day of Christmas.
Cherry Berry‘s inevitable choice to write a song called (of course) “Berry Xmas” lead us to a song mixing vintage electro beats à-la-Lio (amour solitaires) with Suburban Kids With Biblical Name and Wham. Funny thing is that Paisley & Charlie – from Brighton – used samples from the same Chirstmas toy just like the previous band without having any contact with them at all! “Unhappy New Year” is a catchy melancholic song on the joys of the Christmas left behind with great chances to be part of an impossible would be indie version of “When Harry Met Sally” soundtrack or a response to the infamous “Last Christmas” as well.
A Nice Person “Holly turns to grey” is a modern times ballad in a totally “Belle & Sebastian” mood about a guy in love with a decorator girl forgetting about her new love being to busy on the festive winter days.
The Clever Square‘s “Boring Field Trip” closes the album as a pun on Santa Claus just like The Beatles “Her Majesty” closing Abbey Road.
“Kitty Kitten Kristmas” also feature UK based “The Brigadier” and the famous Swedish indie artist “Stars in Coma”. An acoustic version of “Berry Christmas” is the last gift from our artists wishing their listeners to keep on and make it through this pop coloured winter as well. May Indie Pop save our festive days.
