Rob me blind
I think perhaps we depict songs differently depending on our moods and they are apt to telling a new story with each time you listen to them, but usually a song creates the mood. To me, music is like poetry: individuals take different things from it, but in the end it still essentially means the same universally. Songs can be incredibly sentimental. Some songs make me desperately melancholic, but it’s a real sadness, and somehow it feels good to hold onto some form of tangible emotion, one that actually makes sense, if only for the few minutes that the song lasts. If the music consumes you or remains in your mind, I feel that that is a sign of a well-written song. (more…)

So why is music so important?
Hello Sleepers! It’s been a while but I’m hopefully going to get back into the swing of things and help Mark out again. This article is more of a train of thought than anything, but something I think is a viable question to ask, and I’d be interested to see whether something interactive would take off on here. See, that’s the beauty of an online magazine: instant feedback. (more…)

Laughing With Regina Spektor
With the recent release of her stunning new album, Far, it seemed apt to write about Regina Spektor, an artist who I have adored for years. I honestly cannot get enough of her, with her original blues voice and her catchy, theatrical songs. She is definitely one of my favourite singer/songwriters, and would easily come in my top ten of favourite overall artists. (more…)

Jill Leighton
On Saturday 24th January, I met Jill Leighton again for the first time in 15 years. The first thing that strikes you even before she has started to perform is her beauty. She is one of the most beautiful people to ever consume my gaze, golden hair and a face as pure as the morning sun rising. She has this innocence in her eyes that is so endearing and a manner that is as calm as a willow tree washing over a breezy landscape. (more…)

The Sound of Mature Huddersfield: The Scaremongers
Yorkshire is the epitome of good music. Bands such as The Beautiful South, Kaiser Chiefs, Human League and the Arctic Monkeys all are Yorkshire natives, and proper Northerners. Being a proud ‘northern lass’ myself, I love finding new talent from my area, so that I can have yet another reason to love the place I live. So, when my friend and I discovered the Scaremongers, an Indie/post-punk band from Huddersfield, I was quick to check them out. This interest was boosted by the fact that Simon Armitage was a band member; as far as I was concerned, nothing could go wrong.

Alice Nine
Alice Nine are probably one of the most talented Japanese rock bands I have come across so far. As an avid fan of Japan, and all things Japanese, I have made it my mission to familiarise myself with Japanese music (not a hard feat with the extensive media available on the internet). I came across them mostly by accident a couple of years ago, just before the release of their 2007 album, Alpha.

Meiko Has Become Eclectic
The Indie culture has recently taken us by storm, and I for one am grasping it firmly with both hands. The soft melodies, made raw and real by the husky, liberated voices of female and male front persons alike are probably the best easy listening a music lover can get after hours listening to the constant thrum of technology and the blur of voices as one moment blends into another each tiresome, endless working day. Indie music can be enjoyed by anyone, it’s just that type of music, where the tune is catchy, a rhythm that sticks in your mind for days following, and the lyrics speak of things everyone can relate to.
